Avenue Bookstore, Albert Park, is delighted to invite you to enjoy a glass of sparkling with us as we launch Kirsty Manning's stunning new novel, The Jade Lily, set in Shanghai.
The book will be launched by local Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, Sandie Griffiths, who acted as a reader and sounding board for the TCM aspects of the novel. Former Jewish refugees, Horst Eisfelder and Sam Moshinsky will also be in attendance. Both gentlemen lived in Shanghai during this period and kindly shared their personal experiences with Kirsty as she researched and wrote this novel.
The Jade Lily explores a little-known aspect of Jewish and Chinese history of World War Two. Over 20,000 Jewish refugees lived in Shanghai during the war, as this city in the Far East was the only port in the world you could enter without a visa. The novel explores this forgotten corner of history at a time when Shanghai dazzled as the 'Paris of the East.'
The Jade Lily novel offers a well-researched look at the harsh realities of war, and, ultimately, as a beautiful story of what it means to be a family and what one is willing to do for love.
This novel is attracting much international excitement, and will also be published in North America, Germany, Netherlands and into Hebrew over the next 12 months.
